Requests of the German insurance industry for improved access

The key problem is the still applying restriction of foreign shareholdings to only 26 %.

This does not only represent a serious obstacle to market entry for foreign investors, but also hinders the development of the Indian insurance market on the whole because local partners are often unable or unwilling to participate in capital increases, which are actually necessary given the dynamism of the market.

In a first step, this limit on shareholdings should be raised to at least 49 %, as has been announced by the Indian government for a long time.
